We hope you had a wonderful Halloween! Now that it’s November, we have so much to be thankful for including our amazing staff here at American Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.
This month we are thankful for having the ability to help all of our patients, especially those suffering with TMJ issues. For those that don’t know about their TMJ (temporomandibular joint), a person has two joints on each side of your face. The joints connect in front of your ears to the lower jawbone of your skull to help with chewing and talking. Many people face issues with these joints.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, it’s probably time to see a dentist to get an oral examination and x-rays done to confirm your diagnosis.
- Jaw Pain
- Facial Pain
- Jaw Popping and Clicking
- Headaches or Migraines
- Earaches
- Toothache
- Ringing in the Ears
We are happy to get you set up with an appointment to determine the cause of your TMJ syndrome. For many, it happens because of Bruxism (Teeth grinding or clenching), Malocclusion (teeth do not fit together), stress, or any previous injury to the jaw.
Our office can see if you are a candidate for occlusal adjustment or night guard. We also can suggest pain relievers and muscle relaxers. If the symptoms do not get better, we can refer you to a TMJ specialist.
But it’s imperative that you get your symptoms checked out immediately as it can cause lasting effects such as chronic pain, jaw problems such as dislocation or lock jaw, sleep problems, or ear problems. If you are struggling with any of the above symptoms, please call our office immediately to schedule a check-up!
